St Petersburg-Clearwater Airport in Florida

St Petersburg-Clearwater Airport is stands on a peninsula on the West Coast of Florida. It is in an area which is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico to the west and Tampa Bay to the east offering 50km of white sandy beaches on eight barrier islands. The airport is close to some of the major Florida attractions - just 30 minutes to Busch Gardens in Tampa and 90 minutes to the Walt Disney World Resort, Sea World and Universal Studios Escape in Orlando.

St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Tampa International Airport is only 30 minutes from St. Petersburg and is served by all major airlines, with the St. Petersburg/Clearwater International Airport providing additional passenger services and Albert Whitted Airport in downtown St. Petersburg is a base for private aviation. The airport can be reached via State Route 686 - Roosevelt Blvd 7km north of St. Petersburg: Interstate 75 leads from points both north and south in Florida to the Tampa Bay area, and from Orlando I-4 connects in Tampa with I-275 southbound to St. Petersburg.

When you arrive at the airport and get to the baggage reclaim area you will find four reclaim belts, plenty of baggage carts and two public pay phones. The area is relatively small so it is easy to find your way around. There is an Information Booth/Visitors Information Centre in the baggage reclaim area in the terminal building. There are also five major car hire companies based at St Petersburg Airport with their desks situated in the baggage reclaim area immediately opposite the arrivals hall, so if you decide to hire a car it is worth booking in advance with one of them so that you can complete a lot of the paperwork in advance and save time when you arrive in Florida.

The taxis and shuttle services from the airport operate from across the road from arrivals and baggage reclaim. Always make sure you know approximate travelling distance to your location and it is always a good idea to agree a price with the taxi driver before you set off if the car is not metered.

If you are planning to use public transport then Amtrak offers bus connections to St. Petersburg plus the Greyhound bus system also links to many northern cities. The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority also provides buses from the airport covering the entire county and offering access to the beaches.

If you are departing from St Petersburg-Clearwater Airport you can be dropped off at the front of the terminal building but you cannot leave a vehicle there unattended. The short stay car park is available just further along from ticketing/check in on the left side after the car hire car park. You will be checking in to ticketing/check in A or B, depending on which airline you are travelling with.

The short and long term car parking lots are open two hours prior to the first departure of the day and one hour after the last flight arrives. Cash, Credit and Debit Cards are all accepted for payment. The offsite car park is across Roosevelt Blvd and is not always open so check in advance and the airport will operate a free shuttle service from the remote lot to the terminal.

You can get something to eat and drink at the airport with the Palm Terrace Restaurant on the second floor of the terminal building offering spectacular views of Tampa Bay and airport runways, with an American Bistro menu serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Suncoast Attractions is the airport gift shop selling souvenirs from Tampa Bay area attractions and museums. There is also a newsagents and duty free shops in the terminal.
