Bamboo Flooring - The Natural Choice

There are many floor selections available today that claim to be virtually indestructible or classically beautiful. Only one can claim to be both of those plus be the most natural choice - literally.

Bamboo floors are made from bamboo in Asia. The bamboo was considered a waste product for centuries, but now is being used for beautification, and your home may be next. It is beautiful and comes in as many colors as hardwoods with various grains and textures. It is also extremely durable thanks to bamboo's natural properties and the special process used to create it.

Highly Functional

A bamboo floor is highly functional. It is sturdy and easy to install. The process used to create the floor compacts the layers of material into a hard, durable product. It is then laminated to seal it together. The end product is highly water resistant, although not waterproof, and can withstand a great deal of foot traffic.

Bamboo flooring is often compared to hardwood floors, but is probably closer to laminate for functionality. It is only slightly less water resistant than the laminate, which is actually a completely manufactured product, and just as durable underfoot. Of course, the bamboo flooring is considerably more attractive than laminate.

Classically Beautiful

A laminate floor is easy to distinguish from real hardwood. It is often a choice for homes with high traffic or a more limited budget. Bamboo flooring is more comparable to hardwood when it comes to grains and appearance. Bamboo floors are made from natural materials, so they are naturally beautiful.

Hardwood might be considered the most classically beautiful floors by traditional definitions, but that may change. Bamboo on the other hand is fresh in appearance and comes in both light and dark tones. It is hardy and stands the test of time. Of course it is relatively new to the floor covering marketplace, at least in the Western world, so there simply hasn't been time for bamboo to take its place among the more classical flooring selections.

Economical by Nature

Because bamboo floors are made from very easily renewable resources, it is simple to find and harvest. The harvesting process is relatively simple as well. Combined with the ease of treating and the refining process the sheer abundance of bamboo makes a very economical price for the flooring. In short, a bamboo floor is less expensive than comparable alternatives.

The Natural Choice

Bamboo is not only inexpensive and durable, it is the most eco-friendly product available. It is created from weeds and the raw materials are replanted easily in a very short amount of time. The process to manufacture the floor is easy on the chemicals and by not burning the bamboo as farmers have done for centuries, the atmosphere is spared the chemicals and ozone.

It is rare that a product comes along that is beautiful, durable and attractively priced. But bamboo has done exactly that and managed to be environmentally sound as well. Bamboo flooring will continue to grow in popularity as more realize exactly how attractive it is on all fronts.
