I spent a week over in Kittitas for the Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association (WOTFA) summer workshop, and while I was there Jeff Anderson graciously agreed to be filmed as part of a this video series. I can still remember my best friend's bathroom. I was only about eight years old, but I remember that his family kept a copy of the Reader's Digest on the back of the toilet, probably on a doily. I loved reading the silly jokes during my every so often trip to their bathroom. That was my introduction to bathroom decoration and accessories.

Today the market of bathroom decorating has exploded, but few of us take time to consider how to make our bathrooms more comfortable beyond that token copy of the Reader's Digest. After all, you're going to have to visit that room several times a day, so why not use it as just one more canvas for your creative palate to paint on. Even more than that, consider what kind of statement a well decorated bathroom makes to visitors. Everyone cares about their kitchen and living room, but those who take the time to make their bathroom appealing will demonstrate their genuine care for their home overall. Consider what will make you and your guests feel relaxed. For example, relaxing pictures across from the toilet can create a serene environment overall.

What to Walk on in Your House

There are many options for home flooring; it is just a matter of personal taste. You can choose between carpet, tile, area rugs, hard woods, cement, or laminates. Do you like warm and homey or ease when cleaning or the warm look of wood? Is your home casual or more formal?

Flooring is as personal as the people who live in the home. For decades carpet has been the flooring of choice for Americans but hasn't been so for the rest of the world. Cement, dirt, laminates or tile grace the floor of most other countries.

Tile is beautiful and comes in a myriad of colors and styles. Cement flooring is becoming increasingly popular, especially in basements or recreation rooms. It last forever and is easy to clean, but I wouldn't want to stand on it every day.
